Sara Lee’s ISOLA series of the lagoon, islands and facades of this beguiling city use gouache (watercolour) on paper, each including a printed woodcut layer. The images are a very limited edition of seven prints, each varied by the gouache backgrounds hand-painted in response to the changing light. The magical light of Venice comes in part from the water on which it seems impossibly built. At dawn and dusk the captivating view of the island facades across the lagoon as the light change as the sun rose or set across the water. 2016
