Launching at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair 2023.
This new series is inspired by mountains and contemplation, memories of places and experiences.
Mount Fuji is a recurring subject in Tierney’s work since a visit to Tokyo. Powerful symbol of a nation, sometimes crystal clear at other times lost in haze and fog, the mountain remains symmetrical and timeless in the constantly changing light.
In “Flimzooz Dusk” the setting sun picks out the high peak while lights appear in the dwellings below. “Lift to the High Places” shows a fragile line of chair lifts below craggy mountain tops, linked by subtle gradations of ink.
“Hytte” is an integral part of friluftsliv in Norway, meaning a commitment to celebrating time outdoors, surrounded by nature. They are usually found in remote locations, often high up in the mountains.
Tierney is Norwegian by heart, a Boodle Hatfield prize winner (2020) and regular exhibitor at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair.

Her expressive prints and paintings spring from sketches and drawings made en plein air and are marked by their celebratory use of colour and line.
