Prudence Ainslie – Descent

Her new prints arch –between and arch- across are currently being exhibited in ‘The Faraway Nearby’ with Rabley Gallery. This exhibition will reopen to the public in early summer 2020.

Prudence Ainslie documents place with the intention of re-analysing and processing the viewing experience. Her prints fold, layer and abstract architectural imagery to create subtle illusions. They are constructed tangible worlds that allude to the original space and interrogate the fluctuation between the reading of the two-dimensional and three-dimensional. Ainslie often combines hand-printed techniques including woodcut printmaking in the Ukiyo-e tradition with contemporary technology.

Ainslie’s work is in the public collections of – UK: The Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Pallant House Gallery, Chichester, Golder-Thompson Collection; Chichester University; Swindon Museum and Gallery Collection, Wiltshire; USA: United Therapeutics Corp. Collection, USA. And has been included in public exhibitions in the UK: PAPER, Swindon Museum and Gallery, (2018): Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (2019,2018,2017,2015,2014); Surface Cutting, Royal Academy, London. (2016).

Born in Wiltshire, UK in 1990. Ainslie studied BA (Hons) Fine Art, Printmaking, at the University of Brighton, graduating with a First Class Honors degree in 2013.
