Sara Lee – Hunter’s Moon

Rabley Gallery will be launching two new prints for the London Original Print Fair Online from 1 May. Hunter Moon and Abate woodcut print editions are hand-printed in the ukiyo-e tradition. Their subtle hues and pared down aesthetic invite contemplation.

View Sara Lee Threshold – Threshold is a new woodcut, which has it’s focus on a distant horizon, between the viewer and what is held beyond it. It is part of a series of new small prints including three very special monotypes, New Moon, Shuttered Moon and Before Harvest, each in 2 versions only, made using techniques borrowed from the Japanese tradition in which water based ink and painted onto the block and hand-printed onto Japanese paper, small variations will occur.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sara Lee’s images are a response to the ephemeral nature of landscape and our profound relationship with it. The expanse of the landscape has no bearing to assess distance. Each is a desert of infinity where one is pulled into the nuance of surface.

Lee predominantly works with drawing and print, including pastel and woodblock in the ukiyo-e tradition. Her practice involves working from site-specific landscapes, followed by extended studio-based work.

Born in Wales in 1956, Sara Lee studied Fine Art at Ravensbourne and Print at Central School of Art. She lives and works in London. She was co- founder of Print Centre Publications, working alongside master printmaker Hugh Stoneman on projects by seminal British artists including Terry Frost, Ian McKeever and Eileen Cooper. She continues to work with Cooper through the imprint Blackbird Editions.
