Katherine Jones two new larger than life collagraphs ‘Narcissus’ and ‘Narcissus Echo’ focus on a narcissus flower or something resembling the trumpet and petals of the daffodil. Basking in the luminous glow of their own reflections they play with the narrative of the Greek God Narcissus, and the Goddess Echo who was infatuated with him.
Katherine Jones makes distinctive images that are inhabited by plants, ordinary objects, spaces and buildings. Often the structures depicted are fragile or vulnerable, covered or transparent. Jones is a painter and a printmaker, her ideas are often exchanged between watercolour, etchings and collagraph prints. She builds layers, overlays marks and colour to create rich nuanced surfaces.
Her prints are included in major international collections including UK: The Victoria and Albert Museum; National Art library; The House of Lords; University College, London, Hospitals Art Collection; Government Art Collection; Royal Festival Hall; Winchester College; Eton College; Ashmolean Museum; University of Chichester Art Collection; University of Warwick Art Collection; Royal West of England Academy, Bristol.
