Katherine Jones RA – The Propagation of Sound

Made in 2014 while a fellow in printmaking at the City and Guilds of London Art school and recently editioned, the print began with thoughts on speaking and listening. Influences included Sylvia Plath’s, ‘The Bell Jar’,  the science experiment of placing a ringing alarm clock inside a bell jar and gradually removing the oxygen until the sound is no longer audible and bees and the decrease in their numbers.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Katherine Jones makes distinctive images that are inhabited by ordinary objects, spaces and buildings. Often the structures depicted are fragile or vulnerable, covered or transparent. They are a framework the artist uses to begin to question perceptions of safety and danger. These issues are under the surface of her everyday as an artist –mother and an individual in a challenged world environment.
