Verglas and Lumiere are two small series of monotypes capturing the excitement of a journey through the French Alps. The tarmac swerves at the corner with the lights in the valley ahead. Each print is unique, made as a painterly offset from the plate.
Due to be launched at the London Original Print Fair at the Royal Academy and are now exclusively available from Rabley Editions online shop.
Working in a tradition of an English landscape painter and printmaker, Sadie Tierney explores objects and places where form is linked to emotion and metaphor. Her expressive prints and paintings spring from sketches and drawings made en plein air and are marked by their celebratory use of colour and line.
The anticipated excitement of the voyage radiates from her imagery, as the sun sets a ship heads out of port reflecting its lights on the sea, a fun fair with its mantle of starry gems lights the night sky or the road ahead sharing glimpses of a new horizon in an alpine valley.
Sadie Tierney was born in London and grew up in Chichester, UK. She currently lives in Portsmouth with her family. She studied at the Royal College of Art, MA (RCA) Fine Art Printmaking and BA(Hons) Fine Art, at Newcastle University.
