Curve evokes the ever-changing experience of viewing the lifting light and weather across the landscape. Lee references our interconnectedness with sky and climate. Made using techniques adapted from the Japanese woodblock tradition, it has been hand-printed from multiple blocks with a painterly approach. Layers of colour are applied directly onto the block with brushes.
Sara Lee’s practice involves walking in and working from the land, followed by extended studio-based work. Her images are a response to the ephemeral nature of landscape and our profound emotional and physical relationship to the natural environment. Distant vistas are a constant thread and compelling focus. She often works at times of changing or dramatic light, at dawn, dusk or with an approaching storm. She predominantly works with drawing and print.
Lee’s work is held in major collections including: (UK) The Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Pallant House Gallery, Chichester; The Golder Thompson Gift, Swindon Museum and Gallery; Otter Gallery, University of Chichester; (USA) United Therapeutics Art Collection; (JPN) Tama University Collection, Tokyo.
